Before Your Repair: How to Back Up Your iPhone or Android Phone

Updated November 6, 2026

Most repairs never touch your photos or apps. Still, a phone that has been dropped or wet can fail at any time, so a fresh backup is the best five minutes you can spend before you visit.

  1. Step 1iPhone: iCloudSettings › your name › iCloud › iCloud Backup › Back Up Now. Stay on Wi-Fi until it finishes.
  2. Step 2iPhone: computerConnect to a Mac (Finder) or a Windows PC (Apple Devices or iTunes) and choose Back Up Now.
  3. Step 3Android: GoogleSettings › Google › Backup (the path varies by brand) and tap Back up now. Photos back up through Google Photos.
  4. Step 4SamsungSamsung phones can also use Samsung Cloud or the Smart Switch app on a computer.

If the screen does not work

If you cannot see or touch the screen, a backup may not be possible before the repair. Tell our team when you drop off the phone; we take extra care and let you know if anything looks risky before we start.

What to bring

Bring the phone and any case you want back on it. Knowing your screen passcode helps the technician test touch, Face ID and cameras after the repair. We never need your Apple ID or Google password.

Questions

Will my phone be wiped during the repair?

No. Screen, battery, back glass and charging port repairs do not erase the phone.

How big does my iCloud need to be?

If iCloud is full, the backup will not finish. Free up space or back up to a computer instead.
